A puppy's nutritional needs vary from breed to breed, and even litter mates will eat different amounts. Because puppies experience growth spurts, pay close attention to your puppy's food consumption and its overall condition.

 Feeding & Storage

All pet food must be stored in a dry, cool place and sealed to reduce the chance of mildew spoilage and insect infestation. Although these problems appear in all food and pet food; it is more frequent in natural pet foods.

  • Keep products in their original bag.
  • Store bag in a bug-proof, tightly fitted lid container.
  • Do not store bags and boxes on a cement or garage floor (moisture picked up from the floors can lead to deterioration).
  • Roll down tops of open bags (to prevent over-exposure to air).
With these simple steps,  your Fromm Family  products will stay fresh for the needs of your pets until your next purchase.

Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Frozen Diets

For more information on Raw, visit their website at: http://www.naturesvariety.com

We have also discovered this wonderful product.

We started weaning our puppies to it as a transition from Mothers milk to solid foods, in addition to the dry Fromm kibble.   We have found this added source of protein makes all the difference in getting the small breeds through that difficult period where they are so susceptible to hypoglycemia.  It also helps if your dog is not feeling well in general and just seems to need a little added boost to help them recover.

NUTRITION JUST AS NATURE INTENDED

Simply put, raw diets provide nutrition the way nature intended.Raw diets provide nutrition the way nature intended. Nature’s Variety Instinct Raw Frozen Diets are formulated like the ancestral diet with 95% meat, organs, and raw ground bone, 5% fruits and vegetables, and 0% grain. Dogs and cats are meat eaters by nature. A diet consisting primarily of raw meat, organ meats, bone, and fat reflects what your pets would eat in their natural habitat. Since dogs and cats are carnivorous by nature, they thrive on a diet rich in nutritious meat.

The Gold Standard – Real, Fresh, and 100% Natural
Proper nutrition can help pets attain – and maintain – a healthy body and a happy life. Many of the benefits of optimal nutrition include a lush & glossy coat, healthy skin, lean muscle tone, a robust immune system, strong bones and teeth, a healthy heart, proper digestion, and increased energy & vitality.

At Nature's Variety, we believe natural is best – and a raw (uncooked) diet is as natural as you can get! Since raw diets provide nutrition the way nature intended, they are truly "the gold standard" of nutrition for your special pets. Cooking food causes proteins to denature, and many become distorted or damaged, essentially destroying their biochemical identity. We believe raw diets are superior to cooked diets because the proteins, vitamins, and minerals are more intact and more bio-available, meaning they are available for your pet to utilize and benefit from. Additionally, raw meat is about 60-70% moisture, and is an excellent source of dietary water. Adequate water intake is considered by many veterinarians to be the first line of defense against kidney and urinary disease.

When we say 100% natural, we mean just that! We do not use synthetic vitamins or minerals in our Raw Frozen Diets. Every ingredient is real, fresh, and thoughtfully included to create a complete and balanced diet.

Nature’s Variety Raw Frozen Diets are formulated like the ancestral diet with 95% meat, organs, and raw ground bone, and with wholesome fruits and vegetables. Dogs and cats are meat eaters by nature. A diet consisting primarily of raw meat, organ meats, bone, and fat reflects what your pet would eat in its natural habitat. Since dogs and cats are carnivores by nature, they thrive on a diet rich in nutritious meat.

What are the Benefits?
BIOLOGICALLY APPROPRIATE FOOD FOR BEST HEALTHA Raw Diet is not medicine, it's just common sense. When given the choice, dogs and cats prefer to eat like carnivores. (After all, when was the last time you saw your pets cooking their food in the back yard before they ate it?) When you feed your pets a biologically appropriate raw diet, they will thrive.

Think about it... when you eat unprocessed & natural foods, you feel healthier and happier – you have more energy, you have fewer aches and pains, you sleep better at night, etc. Our pets are no different! They need healthy & natural foods too. Feed them as nature intended and be prepared for a transformation in your pet's health and happiness.

At Nature's Variety, we consistently receive amazing transformational stories from our Instinct Raw customers. By feeding the diet intended by nature, you and your pet could experience these real results as well:

Hypoglycemia

Hypoglycemia is low blood sugar and is common in toy breed dogs. There are many things which can bring on a bout of hypoglycemia including stress, cold, not eating, fasting before vigorous exercise, and intestinal parasites. Toy breed dogs from 6 to 12 weeks of age are most commonly affected.  After all, the puppy has recently been weaned from its mother, wormed, vaccinated, given a bath, had its nails trimmed, and often has gone into its new home.  Hypoglycemia is serious and in many cases pets may lose consciousness and fall into a coma. Pets can die from hypoglycemia if they do not receive treatment immediately.  The good news is that you can easily arrest the condition.

Treatment for hypoglycemia: If you notice your pet is acting wobbly or weak try giving some treats or canned food, anything you know your pet will eat. If your pet won't eat, try giving it Nutrical or some sugar -- Karo syrup works the best. Rub the syrup on the gums and under the tongue if your pet is unconscious. If your pet is conscious and can swallow you can give the sugar water with a syringe (no needle). If your pet’s blood sugar drops it may also begin to suffer with hypothermia, so you'll need to help keep your dog warm with a heating pad, hot water bottle, and  blankets. Rubbing a puppy briskly with a towel also helps.  Hypoglycemia is very dangerous and can kill a dog if left without treatment.

Feeding: Toy breeds should be fed 3 or more small meals a day to help avoid hypoglycemia. If you have to leave your puppy for an extended period, it is best to leave out some tempting food (maybe canned).  Some owners mix Karo syrup in the drinking water, if you do this the water should be changed daily to avoid bacteria growth.  Always make sure you see your puppy eat – do not assume he/she ate because the food was there.
